About Us

GEM is a small, family-owned and operated consulting firm consisting of the following individuals:

Larry Nodler, PG, CPG

As a consulting environmental and engineering geologist since 1979, I have worked on more than a thousand projects – ranging from federal Superfund sites to small “mom and pop” businesses – from Florida to Hawaii that have involved Phase I through Phase IV environmental assessment activities, hydrogeologic investigations, facility and regulatory compliance audits, water supply development, and geologic characterization and hazard evaluations. My experience includes serving as a consultant addressing environmental concerns at the Shell Oil Company’s west coast marketing terminals and for the national real estate portfolios of several Wall Street lenders. I have also served as a regional hydrogeologist and corporate quality assurance/quality control group member for a large environmental engineering consulting firm. I have B.S. and M.S. degrees in geology and chemical engineering/hazardous waste management, respectively, and have been licensed/registered as a professional geologist, certified engineering geologist, registered environmental assessor, and certified hazardous materials manager in many States and nationally.

Phyllis Nodler, LCPC

Phyllis is the soul of our company and family.  Using her intelligence, wonderful personality, and skills as a licensed professional counselor (her day job) – and having been my companion during many environmental projects since we married in 1986 – she has served as an intrepid researcher, a critical quality control analyst, and as my thankless personal “advisor” since day one.

Andy Nodler, EIT

Andy is the elder of our two sons, an Eagle Scout, and a recent graduate in mechanical engineering from Boise State University.  He worked as our CADD operator from 2006 (while in high school) to 2014.  Andy is now employed as a full-time engineer by a wind power generation company in Idaho and continues to work for GEM on an as-needed basis.

David Nodler

David, our youngest son, is also an Eagle Scout, and has attended the school of hard knocks since graduating from high school in 2010, and has worked on GEM projects for about eight years.  He currently serves as our primary CADD operator, researcher, and exceptionally thorough field assistant.
